Artist Statement
I am drawn naturally to interesting surfaces, textures, line and pattern and shape. I find that getting very close to things alters how we perceive them, emphasizes their essentially abstract nature. I am interested in processes - growth, decay, weathering, regeneration; the way that things come, in time, to resemble each other, lose some of their distinct "objectness" and become emblematic of the passage of time. It interests me that a photograph can capture a brief moment and at the same time reveal the history of something, can situate it within the great cycles of birth and death and regeneration.
